WARSAW, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- No talks are currently being held on basing
part of a U.S. missile defense system in Poland, Poland's Foreign Minister
Radoslaw Sikorski said Monday.
Sikorski made the remarks while commenting on press reports that the Polish
government delays resuming missile defense talks with the United States.
"First we will examine the effects of to-date negotiations. The PM announced
consultations -- first of all with NATO, secondly with the Czech Republic and
also with some neighbors. Only then will we be ready to resume negotiations,"
Sikorski was quoted by Polish news agency PAP.
According to new Prime Minister Donald Tusk, further negotiations on deployment

government
"following a round of negotiations in NATO and with some of our neighbors."
The United States unveiled its plan on Jan. 20 to place a radar system in the
Czech Republic and 10 interceptor missiles in Poland, as components of its
missile defense shield.
The United States claims the system is aimed at resisting threat from nations
such as Iran, and Russia is not a target of the system. But Russia says it is a
threat to its security.
