See also: other related news items. Moscow is awaiting an official response from the United States regarding Russia's initiatives on missile defence, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said. "We have shown them once again and with more detail that our initiatives correspond with the objective analysis of the threats. The American side will give an official response to our proposals in writing," Interfax quoted Lavrov as telling Russian journalists in Manila on August 2. During the consultations on missile defence in Washington on July 30-31, Russia presented detailed written proposals, he said. "The US has taken these proposals for an analysis," Lavrov said. The US also set out its arguments in favour of the planned deployment of missile defence elements in East Europe, he said.
However, Russia's initiatives are "the most efficient response to the challenges and threats existing in reality," he said. |
