Close Menwith Hill
US
war base!
Women’s protest and peace camp Saturday 14 –
Sunday 15 June
Britain
is a crucial ally to
US
war drive. Thousands of British troops fought in the war on
Iraq
, B52 bombers flew from RAF Fairford and Menwith Hill spybase provide critical surveillance information for fighter pilots. Thousands of innocent Iraqis were killed.
The British Government is allowing bases Fylingdales and Menwith Hill in
North Yorkshire
to be used by the
US
as part of a National Missile Defence System. National Missile Defence would allow the
US
to launch a nuclear attack on another country, without fear of retaliation. The system is central to the
US
agenda of escalating military aggression against other countries. The
US
war drive and its NMD programme is leading to a global arms race and exacerbating instability.
Women have consistently played a leading role in opposing the US war drive and the threat of nuclear weapons.
This peace camp follows the successful women’s protest in December 2002 at the base. This weekend camp will include a tour around the base,
anti-war discussions and a march and protest at the base.
All women are encouraged to come along. Please bring banners, placards, drums, etc. You need to bring a tent, sleeping bag, warm clothes and
a contribution to the food is welcome!
