Mr D Harling, Planning Office, Dept. Technical Services, Harrogate. HG1 2AU Dear Sir, Re: Planning Application 6.99.139 CROWND: 'RAF' Menwith Hill. Installation of GT7 Radome. I wish to make a representation concerning this latest Planning Application for the erection of another 'golf ball' radome [the 30th] at Menwith Hill. I am unable to do so because the information contained in the 'Statement of Proposed Development' is at variance with that which accompanies the Site Plan and Pictorial View. At b). in the statement the size is given as '22-metre diameter' & it is described as 'similar in size and appearance to GT5'. At d). it states 'Radome type: Metal space frame, approximately 100 feet in diameter'. Yet again the US NSA has displayed its ignorance of basic mathematics. 22 metres is approximately 72 feet. This appears to be the size of the 'Cassegrain reflector antenna' which will be 'housed in a radome'. The Pictorial Views and the Site Plan depict a 'golf ball' 'similar in size and appearance to GT5' but a 100ft diameter radome mounted on a 'Concrete Radome Ringwall: 13ft 4ins' would actually make it bigger than Ground Terminal, GT6, which is said to be the biggest 'golf ball' in the world [at the biggest US Spy Base in the world]. Nay I suggest that you pursue enquiries with the US NSA to establish whether there is a discrepancy in the advertised and actual dimensions of the 'golf ball' and if so, obtain from them an accurate specification. I should be grateful for an early reply to this letter as I wish to submit an objection before the matter comes up at the Planning Committee. Yours sincerely,
