Notice of Proposed Development has been submitted by the MoD on behalf of the US NSA, to Harrogate Planning Department for 'storage facility for controlled
waste'.
The Planning Officer would not allow me to inspect the plans until the Borough Council's Technical Department has examined them.
I asked if this meant hazardous waste and why the NSA would want to store the waste and not dispose of it, but there are no answers forthcoming until next week. This could be another issue to raise with the Environment Agency. Developments at Nessfield Gate entrance on W of MHS: 6.90.333CROWND I received no replies to any of the letters I sent to the local authorities, on 29th April, advising them that the site is bisected by a public right of way. The Planning Officer admitted that my letter was received. The plans have now been submitted and are in the process of public consultation. In addition to the Visitors' Reception Centre, Vehicle Inspection Centre, etc, they now include a Sewage Pumping Station for the whole development site on the W side of MHS (PX Facility = Supermarket and restaurant and Contractors' Compound). One specification for the Sewage Pumping Station is that it is 'explosion proof'. The mind boggles. Is this another security precaution because the US NSA anticipates a grenade attack by the terrorists of Birstwith-with-Felliscliffe (led by the redoubtable Clerk to the Parish Council, Mrs Hardcastle) or do they conceive of a meg-fart? Meanwhile the sewage pipes up on Menwith Hill Road are leaking again... |
