CAAB Report from Menwith Hill
Lindis Percy was arrested last night at Menwith Hill while driving past the base. She was in breach of the bail conditions imposed by Harrogate
Magistrates' Court ' not to go within 50 meters of the perimeter fence of Menwith Hill airbase' which she immediately admitted.
Lindis was held in custody overnight at Harrogate Police Station and appeared in court this morning. In court the Magistrates were told that North Yorkshire Police and the Ministry of Defence police had measured the distance from the perimeter fence to the middle of the road - a distance said to be 9.2 meters. The Crown Prosecution Service requested that the variation to the bail conditions (to attend the Quaker Meeting for Worship) be withdrawn. This was not agreed by the Magistrates who imposed the same bail conditions allowing Lindis to attend the Quaker Meeting for Worship held at Menwith Hill on the (alternating with Fylingdales) first Saturday of the month. Lindis has had a legal struggle through the courts in the past fornight (Harrogate Magistrates' Court, High Court Leeds and back ot Harrogate Magistrates' Court) to get the variation of bail conditions so that she could demonstrate at Menwith Hill and have freedom to worship - human rights. The High Court refused her application to have the bail conditions lifted but Harrogate Magistrates allowed the application to vary bail. The National Security Agency of America at Menwith Hill is now and will be crucial in the pendng US/UK led attack on Iraq and is also key to the American Missile Defense system ('Star Wars') .... meanwhile the Anti-terrorist patrol were measuring the road.
