More expansion at NSA Menwith Hill UK

We have just heard to-day that there a new planning application has been received from the US 'clients' for the construction of another radome at NSA Menwith Hill.

The details of this application are minimum and we are doing some research at the moment to find out more.  Some of the details in the application are:

The radome which will be 100 metres in diameter and will house a 22 metre Cassegrain Reflector Antennae with a metal spaced frame on a 13'4" ring wall.  A covered Transformer pen approximately 15'x15' and 8' high will be attached in the radome ring wall (painted in 'merlin grey/goose wing grey).

The antenna will be erected in April-July 2004 with the assembly of the radome in August- 2004.

This application has only just been received by Harrogate Planning office and the notice says building will not start until March 2003.  We have some time until then.

It is very important that as many people as possible send in an objection.  If there are five objections the application comes before the Area Sub-Committee in a public forum.  The members of the Committee give more attention to objections on environmental grounds as this is the remit of the Committee. Notice of the application will be displayed from 7 December.  Objections will be received until 28 December 2001.

A journalist rang this morning to ask if CAAB was going to object - yes indeed!  We hope that hundreds and hundreds of people will too.

Thank you

Lindis Percy and Anni Rainbow
