The F-15E Strike Eagles, produced by Boeing in St Louis, are the first new F-15's that the wing has received since 1996. They are recognised as the world's leading dual-role fighter, capable of performing air-to-ground and air-to-air missions. Their twin engines each generate 29,000 pounds of thrust, meaning the planes can travel at twice the speed of sound. The wing, which has 72 F-15E's and F-15C's, will take delivery of ten more of the new planes in coming weeks. The base houses the only F-15 planes in the US Air Forces in Europe.
